## What a qualified 5-axis shop looks like

- **True 5-axis machining centers:** DMG Mori, Mazak Variaxis, Hermle, Okuma MU, Makino, or equivalent trunnion or table/head configuration.
- **CAM capability:** Mastercam, hyperMILL, PowerMill, NX, or equivalent 5-axis simultaneous programming. In-house programmer, not just a post.
- **Probing and in-process metrology:** Spindle probing, Renishaw tool-setter, CMM for first-article and final inspection.
- **Material experience:** Aluminum, titanium, stainless, Inconel, cobalt-chrome, PEEK -- the Ni-base superalloy experience especially matters.
- **Certifications:** ISO 9001 is enough for general industrial; AS9100 opens aerospace; ISO 13485 opens medical.
- **Capacity:** A single 5-axis mill is fine. Multiple machines plus lights-out capacity opens the production tier.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Half the "5-axis" RFQs out there are really 3+2. Will we waste time quoting?

We screen RFQs before routing. If a part is 3+2 positioning it goes to a 3-axis-with-indexer shop; true simultaneous 5-axis goes to you.

### What volume should we expect?

Prototype to low-volume production is the sweet spot. 5-axis RFQs tend to be higher-value per piece than general milling, so fewer RFQs translate to similar revenue.

### Can we quote only aerospace or only medical?
