For Shop Owners & Fabricators
What is OpenSpindle?
OpenSpindle is shop management software built specifically for CNC shops, cabinet shops, millwork shops, and fabricators. It replaces the combination of spreadsheets, whiteboards, and disconnected apps most shops use to manage quotes, jobs, scheduling, production runs, invoicing, and customer communication. Unlike generic tools, OpenSpindle is designed around the actual workflow of a fabrication shop, from the first customer inquiry to the final invoice.
Who is OpenSpindle built for?
OpenSpindle is built for custom fabrication shops with 2 to 50 employees: CNC router shops, cabinet makers, millwork shops, countertop fabricators, metal fab shops, and similar operations running make-to-order or short-run production. If your shop manages jobs across email, spreadsheets, and a whiteboard schedule, OpenSpindle is designed to replace that stack with one purpose-built system.
How is OpenSpindle different from generic shop management software?
Generic shop management tools are built for broad manufacturing and require heavy configuration to fit fabrication workflows. OpenSpindle is designed from the ground up for CNC and fabrication. It understands sheet goods, nest files, material types, and job structures specific to this industry. There are no modules to configure or consultants to hire. Most shops are running live jobs in it within a day of signing up.
What does OpenSpindle replace in a typical shop?
Most shops replace three to six disconnected tools when they switch to OpenSpindle: a quoting spreadsheet, a shared calendar or whiteboard for scheduling, a separate invoicing tool, email threads for customer communication, and manual job tracking. OpenSpindle consolidates all of it into one system so your team is working from the same information rather than syncing across apps and documents.
How long does it take to get set up?
Most shops are fully set up and quoting real jobs in OpenSpindle within one business day. The onboarding flow walks you through adding your machines, labor rates, and material cost library. No implementation consultant required. If you can configure a spreadsheet, you can set up OpenSpindle. There is no ERP-style project or data migration required to get started.
How much does OpenSpindle cost?
OpenSpindle is priced as a flat monthly subscription with no per-seat fees and no per-transaction cuts from your revenue. Plans are structured to be accessible for small shops and scale with larger teams. A free trial is available so you can run real jobs through the system before committing. Reach out to us directly for pricing details.
Does OpenSpindle work with the software my shop already uses?
OpenSpindle accepts the file formats your shop already works with: DXF, DWG, SVG, PDF, and STEP. Files from AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Cabinet Vision, Aspire, and similar tools upload without conversion. For accounting, shops using QuickBooks can continue running bookkeeping there while managing production operations inside OpenSpindle. Native integrations with additional tools are on the roadmap.
Can OpenSpindle help my shop get more customers?
Yes. In addition to the shop management software, OpenSpindle operates a marketplace where buyers submit fabrication project requests and shops receive matched RFQs based on their capabilities and location. Shops on OpenSpindle can receive inbound job inquiries without running paid ads or hiring salespeople. The marketplace is designed to help fill idle machine capacity with qualified, matched work.
For Project Owners & Buyers
What is the OpenSpindle Marketplace?
The OpenSpindle Marketplace is a network of vetted CNC shops, cabinet makers, millwork fabricators, and custom fabricators. Project owners, including homeowners, contractors, designers, and architects, submit their project and receive quotes from qualified local shops. It is free to submit a project. OpenSpindle matches your request to shops based on what they build, the materials they work with, and how close they are to your project location.
What kinds of projects can I source through OpenSpindle?
OpenSpindle connects buyers with shops for a wide range of custom fabrication work: kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, countertops, custom doors, millwork and trim, entertainment centers, closet systems, desks, shelving, bed frames, range hoods, mantels, and more. Both residential and commercial projects are supported. If it is built from wood, sheet goods, or fabricated material, there is likely a shop in the network that can produce it.
How do I get quotes for my project?
Submit your project at openspindle.com/quote. Describe what you need, upload any photos, sketches, or design files you have, and provide your location and timeline. Vetted shops in your area who can handle the work will respond with quotes, typically within one to three business days. You can message shops directly inside the platform to ask questions or refine the scope before deciding.
Is it free to post a project on the Marketplace?
Yes. Posting a project and receiving quotes through the OpenSpindle Marketplace is free for buyers. There is no subscription or fee to submit a request and compare quotes from multiple shops. You pay the shop directly for the fabrication work once you have chosen who to work with. OpenSpindle does not add a transaction fee on top of the shop price.
How does OpenSpindle choose which shops see my project?
OpenSpindle matches your project to shops based on three factors: what they build, what materials they work with, and their proximity to your project location. A cabinet shop that specializes in painted MDF work will see different projects than a CNC sign shop or a countertop fabricator. The shops who respond to your request are genuinely qualified to do the work, not just any shop that happened to see it.
Are the shops on OpenSpindle vetted?
Yes. Shops on the OpenSpindle network go through a profile review process before receiving project requests. Their capabilities, equipment, and service areas are verified as part of onboarding. Buyer reviews and job history build shop reputation over time on the platform. You can review a shop profile, capability set, and past work before choosing to work with them.
