# Get quotes for custom semiconductor equipment parts

Wafer handling fixtures, sputter-target backing plates, hot-zone hardware, electrostatic chuck (ESC) parts, vacuum chamber components, and quartz tooling. We route each part to a shop set up for the specific material and tolerance class the fab tool needs. Upload CAD or drawings for a quote.

**Certifications:** ISO 9001, Class 100 / 1000 cleanroom, Vacuum-ready processing

**Minimum order:** 1 part | **Typical lead time:** 3 to 8 weeks (refractory and specialty) | **Core materials:** Mo, W, Al 6061, ceramics, quartz | **Typical tolerance:** ±0.0005 in on critical features

## Certifications

Semiconductor equipment supply chains are run by a handful of OEMs (Applied Materials, Lam Research, KLA, ASML, Tokyo Electron) and their qualified-vendor lists. These are the standards and capabilities that gate the work.

- **ISO 9001:** The quality baseline. Lot traceability, documented process control, and change management are expected on every part.
- **OEM qualification (AMAT, Lam, KLA, TEL, ASML):** Each major OEM maintains an approved-supplier list with specific audits, process qualifications, and PPAP requirements. Named approvals open the restricted parts.
- **Cleanroom-compatible processing:** Final cleaning, packaging, and shipping done in ISO Class 7 or cleaner. Many parts require certified particle counts and double-bagging.
- **Refractory metal handling:** Molybdenum, tungsten, and specialty ceramic processing with the ventilation, PPE, and waste handling that these materials require.
- **Material traceability:** Full heat lot traceability on Mo, W, 6061 vacuum-grade aluminum, and ceramic parts; PMI/XRF alloy verification where called out.
- **Vacuum-ready processing:** No oil-based cutting fluids on parts bound for vacuum tools; alternative coolants, dedicated fixturing, and documented cleanliness protocols.

## Material selection for semiconductor equipment parts

Common components, materials, and the reason each one fits. Confirm vacuum grade, cleanliness class, and surface finish with the shop.

| Component | Typical material | Why it fits |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sputter-target backing plates | Molybdenum, Cu-Cr, 6061 aluminum | CTE match to target, thermal conductivity |
| Hot-zone hardware (CVD, epi) | Molybdenum, TZM, tungsten | Service above 1000 °C in vacuum / inert |
| Electrostatic chuck (ESC) parts | AlN, Al₂O₃, SiC ceramic | Dielectric strength, thermal uniformity |
| Vacuum chamber bodies | 6061-T6, 5083 aluminum | Weldable, non-magnetic, certified vacuum grade |
| Wafer handling arms & end effectors | 6061 aluminum, PEEK, Vespel | Low particulate, non-marring |
| Showerhead / gas distribution | Nickel, Hastelloy, aluminum | Corrosion resistance in process gases |
| Quartz tooling (furnace, cleaning) | Fused quartz, synthetic silica | High purity, high temperature, non-reactive |
| RF electrodes & gas injectors | Aluminum, stainless, specialty alloys | Conductivity, corrosion in plasma |

## Why OpenSpindle

- **Specialist sourcing, not generalist:** Semiconductor equipment parts fail if routed to a general job shop that cannot source moly, run vacuum-grade aluminum, or clean to cleanroom spec. We route each part to shops that have.
- **Refractory metals handled routinely:** Molybdenum, tungsten, and TZM RFQs for hot-zone and sputter work route to the handful of US shops set up to run them, with the mill accounts and PPE to deliver.
- **Cleanliness and traceability:** Final cleaning in cleanroom conditions, certified particle counts, double-bagged shipping, and full material traceability -- the baseline expectations for semi parts.
- **Multiple shops compared:** See competitive quotes from several qualified semi shops rather than depending on one OEM-approved supplier.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Do you have shops qualified by the major semi OEMs?

Yes. We work with shops that are on approved-supplier lists for Applied Materials, Lam Research, KLA, ASML, and Tokyo Electron for specific commodity codes. Qualification is per OEM and per part category; when you request a quote, we match the RFQ to shops with the right approvals.

### Can you source molybdenum, TZM, and tungsten?

Yes. Refractory metals are a core specialty of our shop network. The handful of US shops qualified for Mo, TZM, and W machining and EDM are in our network with Plansee, H.C. Starck, Elmet, and Edgetech mill relationships. Lead times run 3–8 weeks depending on stock availability.

### What about ceramic parts (AlN, Al₂O₃, SiC)?

We route ceramic work to shops with the diamond grinding and lapping capabilities to finish AlN, alumina, and silicon carbide chucks and insulators. Many ceramic parts are also brazed or metalized assemblies; we coordinate those multi-step jobs across partners.

### What is "vacuum-grade" aluminum?

A controlled-chemistry 6061 or 5083 (or dedicated vacuum alloys like Al6061-VAC) with low volatile content, certified for ultra-high vacuum service. Shops processing vacuum parts use dedicated fixturing to prevent cross-contamination from oil-based coolants and clean parts in cleanroom conditions before shipping. Specify vacuum service on the drawing so the shop quotes the right stock and process.

### What cleanliness levels do you handle?

From general industrial to Class 100 (ISO Class 5) cleanroom final cleaning and packaging. Call out the required particle count, cleanliness spec (e.g. IEST, or OEM-specific), and packaging requirements (double-bag, triple-bag, N₂ purge) on the RFQ.

### Can shops handle corrosive process parts?

Yes. Hastelloy, Monel, and specialty nickel alloys for chlorine, fluorine, and HBr process environments are routed to shops with the Ni-alloy machining experience and the finishing (electropolish, passivate) that corrosive service requires.

### What quantities are typical?

Prototype 1–10 for new tool development; low-volume production 10–100 for recurring consumable and wear parts; occasional larger production releases of 500+ for high-use consumables. Our quote routing handles the full range.
