We know what it takes to run a shop
OpenSpindle is the operating system for CNC and fabrication shops, built by people who have lived the problems it solves.
Born on the shop floor
For over a decade, Tom Petrini ran Petrini Homes, a custom building company in Austin, Texas. Every project demanded precision CNC work: custom cabinetry, countertops, wall panels, bed frames. And every time, he hit the same wall. The handful of local shops he knew were either booked out for months or couldn't meet his timelines.
So he bought a CNC machine and started Siena Built to handle his own work. That's when the real education began.
When you have work, things are great. When you don't, you have massive overhead to cover and no predictable way to source the next job.
Running both companies, Tom saw the problem from every angle. Shops were cobbling together generic software across five or six subscriptions just to manage leads, scheduling, costs, and invoicing. None of it talked to each other. None of it was built for how fabrication shops actually work. And none of it automated what it should.
After ten years of living that reality, he decided it was time to build the solution CNC shops deserved.
He pitched the idea to Bryan Petro, a friend who was rolling out of his previous company. Bryan had spent nearly 20 years building large-scale marketplace and software businesses, including serving as CEO of Getmyboat, the world's largest boat rental marketplace. He also put himself through college working in large apartment restoration construction, so the industry wasn't foreign to him. The timing was right, and the fit was obvious.
OpenSpindle was born.
Principles that drive the product
Built for the shop floor
Generic software forces shops to adapt to tools that were never designed for them. We build every feature around how CNC and fabrication shops actually operate.
One system, not ten subscriptions
Shops deserve a single platform that handles leads, quotes, scheduling, equipment, invoicing, and reporting without duct-taping tools together.
Software should work as hard as you do
If a task can be automated, it should be. From cost calculations to PM scheduling to milestone invoicing, the platform handles the work so you can focus on the craft.
Every shop deserves access
Whether you run three machines or thirty, you should have access to the same professional tools. We are building OpenSpindle to scale with shops of every size.
Two founders, one mission

Tom Petrini
Co-Founder
A manufacturing and systems executive with over 20 years of experience across both sides of the industry, from owning and operating his own CNC manufacturing business for a decade to managing contract manufacturing with Flextronics. A serial entrepreneur and dual-Master's graduate (MBA/MS), he also built a commercial and residential construction firm and invented a patented hardware product used over one million times.

Bryan Petro
Co-Founder
Consumer software executive with nearly two decades of experience, from early product roles to serving as chief executive of Getmyboat, the world's largest boat rental marketplace, which he helped grow from early concept to global scale and a successful acquisition by a multinational Japanese corporation.
We're just getting started
Right now we are a team of two building the platform we wish existed when we were running shops and managing construction work. The more time we spend in this industry, the clearer it becomes that the opportunity goes far beyond any single trade.
Across residential and commercial construction, fabricators, manufacturers, contractors, installers, and suppliers are all coordinating complex work through disconnected tools and manual processes. We believe there is a better way, a connected, data-driven operating layer for the entire ecosystem.
OpenSpindle is being built to bring that system together.
Whether you run a shop, manage builds in the field, or want to help shape how this industry operates, we'd love to hear from you.
