Get quotes for custom Hastelloy parts
Hastelloy is the trade name for a family of nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloys engineered for the most aggressive acid, chloride, and high-temperature service. Shops that run Inconel often run Hastelloy; both need rigid machines, carbide tooling, and the sourcing to get the certified bar. Upload your drawing and we route it accordingly.

Grades
Hastelloy grades shops run most
Each grade targets a specific chemical environment. Specify the exact alloy on the drawing; substitutions change corrosion performance.
Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276)
The most widely used Hastelloy. 16% Mo, 15% Cr, 4% W, balance Ni. Best general-purpose resistance to oxidizing + reducing media and chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion. The standard for chemical-process wet-ends, scrubbers, and offshore sour service.
Best for Chemical process reactors, scrubbers, pump wet-ends, offshore oil & gas, flue-gas desulfurization
Hastelloy C-22 (UNS N06022)
Higher chromium (22%) than C-276 for stronger oxidizing-acid resistance. Preferred over C-276 for mixed-oxidizer streams and nitric acid service.
Best for Pharma reactor vessels, nuclear waste handling, mixed-oxidizer chemical streams
Hastelloy X (UNS N06002)
A high-temperature oxidation-resistant Ni-Cr-Fe-Mo alloy. Keeps strength to 1200 °C in air, used for gas-turbine combustors, nozzles, and furnace hardware. Not primarily a wet-corrosion alloy.
Best for Gas turbine combustors, aircraft engine parts, furnace components
Hastelloy B-3 (UNS N10675)
A Ni-Mo alloy with excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid and reducing media at all concentrations and temperatures. The specialist for HCl service and similar reducing environments.
Best for HCl and sulfuric acid service, specialty chemical reactors
Hastelloy G-30 (UNS N06030)
Developed for phosphoric and sulfuric acid service in fertilizer and metals-refining industries.
Best for Phosphoric acid production, metals refining, specialty acid service

Material properties
Representative values for Hastelloy C-276 (solution annealed). Other C-series and B-3 are similar density; X is formulated for high-temperature strength.
| Property | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Density (C-276) | 8.89 g/cm³ (0.321 lb/in³) |
| Melting range (C-276) | 1325–1370 °C |
| Tensile strength (annealed) | ~110 ksi min |
| Yield strength (annealed) | ~45 ksi min |
| Elongation | ~40% min |
| Hardness (annealed) | ~90 HRB |
| Machinability | Poor; similar to Inconel 625. Rigid setups, carbide, modest SFM. |
| Welding | Readily welded; matching filler (ERNiCrMo-4 for C-276). |
| Max continuous service (C-276) | ~1040 °C in air; much lower in corrosive liquid service |
Hastelloy work-hardens rapidly. Keep the cutter engaged (no dwell), use positive geometry, and expect 20–40% of the SFM you would run on 316 stainless.
Processes
Manufacturing methods for hastelloy
The right process depends on part geometry, tolerances, and production volume.
Finishing
Finishes for hastelloy
Hastelloy is usually left as-machined or passivated; the alloy itself provides corrosion resistance that would be the job of a coating on stainless.
As-machined
Standard for most industrial parts.
Pickled & passivated
Removes heat tint and surface iron contamination from machining and welding; restores full corrosion resistance.
Electropolished
Mirror finish on reactor internals and food/pharma wet-ends to reduce particulate adhesion.
Shot peened
For fatigue-critical aerospace parts (common on Hastelloy X turbine components).
Specify the surface condition on the drawing. For chemical service, call out pickle + passivate per ASTM A967; for pharma, electropolish to a defined Ra.
Applications
Where hastelloy parts are used
Hastelloy wins when the service environment eats stainless. Hard to justify when stainless would do; indispensable when it would not.
Compare
Hastelloy vs other materials
How Hastelloy compares to the alloys buyers consider alongside it.
Hastelloy vs Inconel 625
Inconel 625 →- Both are Ni-Cr-Mo superalloys with excellent high-temperature and corrosion properties
- Hastelloy C-276 has higher Mo content, better pitting and crevice resistance in chlorides
- Inconel 625 is better in high-temperature oxidation and generally lower cost
Choose Hastelloy for the most aggressive wet-chemical service. Choose Inconel 625 for high-temperature or dual-service parts.
Hastelloy vs 316L stainless steel
316L stainless steel →- Hastelloy costs several times more per pound than 316L
- Hastelloy resists chloride pitting and reducing acids where 316L fails outright
- If 316L passes your corrosion test, there is no reason to spec Hastelloy
Choose Hastelloy only when 316L (or 904L / duplex) is proven inadequate. Choose stainless for general industrial service.
Hastelloy vs Titanium
Titanium →- Titanium resists seawater and oxidizing chlorides even better than C-276
- Hastelloy handles reducing acids (HCl, H2SO4) where titanium fails
- Weigh the exact chemistry; "chemical resistant" is not transferable between the two
Specify by chemistry, not category. Titanium for oxidizing/chloride service; Hastelloy for reducing acids and mixed streams.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Both are Ni-Cr-Mo superalloys with similar wet-corrosion performance. C-22 has higher chromium (22% vs 16%) for better oxidizing-acid resistance and improved weldability without post-weld heat treatment. C-276 is the general-purpose default; C-22 wins in mixed-oxidizer streams (nitric + HCl) and where field welds will not be heat-treated.
