Send a flat pattern, not a picture of the finished part

The most common file problem on cut-and-form work is a DXF drawn as the outline of the finished bracket rather than as the shape that has to be cut before bending. Metal stretches through a bend, so the flat length is not the sum of the leg lengths, and the difference depends on the material, its thickness and the tool used to form it. A file that ignores it produces parts that are individually correct and collectively short. Send the 3D model alongside the DXF and let the shop that does the bending derive the flat pattern from it. That way the bend allowance is one party responsibility rather than a mismatched assumption held by two.
