Las Vegas has sixteen machine shops. That is not a rounding of a larger number, it is the count for the whole metro, and at 0.15 times the national rate it is the thinnest supply base of any market we serve by a wide margin. The Global Gaming Expo brings more than 25,000 people to the Strip on an annual product cycle.
Gaming devices are regulated hardware, which makes this a compliance world rather than just a product category. Machines and their components are subject to approval, and the parts that matter are serialized, controlled and expected to be tamper-evident. That is closer to how aerospace or medical work is bought than to consumer electronics, and it is not obvious from the outside.
The second buyer population is the properties themselves. A casino floor, a showroom or an attraction is a working building that never shuts, and equipment in it gets maintained, retrofitted and replaced around guests who are present at four in the morning. There is no annual shutdown, no quiet season and no possibility of taking the room offline for a week. Work happens in a window measured in hours, at night, and everything has to be finished and out of sight by the time the floor fills again.
Put those together and the sourcing problem is specific. Small quantities, often regulated, frequently urgent, installed on a schedule that cannot move, in a metro with sixteen shops. Almost none of it can be solved locally, and the honest answer is usually that it should not be.
Sourcing near Las Vegas can mean shorter transit, lower freight on heavy or oversized work, and the option to walk the floor during a build. It is worth paying for on large weldments and on jobs where you need to be in the room. On most machined and printed parts it is not: they ship well, and a manufacturer set up for your part will beat a nearer one that is not, on both price and date. We weigh that per job instead of defaulting to whoever is nearby.
